The Ubuntu distribution is one of the most popular Linux distributions. It is funded by parent company Canonical and made freely available to everyone. A new release is scheduled every six months (April, October) with Long Term Supported (LTS) versions coming out every two years. Unlike other major Linux distributions, Ubuntu does not offer a commercial (paid) version with a free (community) edition, but rather just free versions. The governance of Ubuntu is a shared between Canonical, other companies, and the thousands of volunteers.
